As your teeth shift to their new positions, your orthodontist will need to make adjustments to your braces to ensure that the desired result is achieved. While the exact number of adjustments can’t be predicted, your specialist orthodontist will inform you during your follow-up visits as to how your treatment is progressing.
The follow-up visits with your specialist orthodontist are a vital component of your Orthodontic treatment. These are required so your orthodontist can monitor your teeth’s progress and make adjustments to the wires to ensure that your teeth are being positioned correctly. It’s important to attend your follow-ups with your specialist orthodontist! By failing to do so, you may hinder your teeth’s progress and prolong your Orthodontic treatment.
The length of Orthodontic treatment will vary from person-to-person but it will typically take between one to two years, and it’s recommended that you follow-up with your orthodontist every four-to-six weeks. At each of these follow-ups your orthodontist will assess the need for adjustments such as the changing of wires or replacement of rubber bands, meaning that your braces may require thirty-nine alterations during your treatment! Thankfully, braces have gone through numerous advancements throughout the years and the required amount of adjustments is often much lower.
