How long do I have to wear my retainers?

Every person is different and responds differently to orthodontic treatments.

A very common question and concern for patients undergoing orthodontic treatments is the ongoing maintenance of their teeth. Retainers are a vital device used to maintain the realigned position of teeth after your braces have been removed.

As part of their specialist treatment, your Norwest orthodontist will extensively advise on the correct use of your retainer as well as proposed time frames that it will be needed for. As a general guideline, it takes at least a year for teeth to stabilise in their new positions. However, this does not apply to every case and it is always advised to follow your orthodontist’s educated recommendations.

Remember, consistent use of a retainer will ensure that you do not jeopardise your investment in your braces.

It is important that you discuss the concerns you may have about wearing a retainer with your orthodontist in order explore any possible solutions. It is also important to consider that maintenance of your teeth is a long-term commitment, but one that will definitely pay off each and every time you smile.

For more information about the benefits of consistently wearing a retainer, please contact the team at Norwest Orthodontics on 9672 6113.
