All about Invisalign!

Clear aligners are a discrete treatment option, making them popular with adults and working professionals who want to straighten their teeth without traditional braces.

Dr. Shimanto Purkayastha is an Invisalign accredited specialist orthodontist with extensive experience in clear aligner treatment. This revolutionary orthodontic treatment option consists of clear removable aligners that you change periodically.

Each aligner is individually designed for your teeth and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final prescribed position.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of Invisalign treatment will depend on the amount of correction that needs to be achieved with your aligners. At your initial orthodontic consultation, Dr Shimanto can explain to you;

  1. Whether you are a candidate for clear aligners – Some bite and alignment issues are outside of what clear aligners can correct. If this is the case, you may be better treated with fixed appliances such as braces. Dr Shimanto will do an examination of your teeth to determine your suitability for clear aligners.
  2. How long your treatment will be – If more aligners are needed, this will mean a longer treatment time. Dr Shimanto can advise how long he anticipates you will need to wear aligners in order to straighten your teeth.
  1. What system of clear aligners would be best suited to you – Invisalign is one of many systems of sequential plastic aligners. Here at Norwest Orthodontics, we use both Invisalign and Spark clear aligners. Dr Shimanto will advise you which system would be best suited to addressing your orthodontic needs.
  1. Cost of your treatment – Once Dr Shimanto has identified your orthodontic needs and the system of aligners best suited to you, he can then advise you what your treatment fee will be. Our treatment fees are divided up into affordable, interest free payment plans for your convenience, with a deposit when your treatment begins then monthly instalments during your treatment. Invisalign vs Braces?

Invisalign and braces both have their strengths and weaknesses as orthodontic appliances. For some patients, Invisalign or clear aligners may provide a quicker treatment time than traditional fixed braces. For other patients, their orthodontic concerns may not be able to be comprehensively addressed with clear aligners – for example, patients with large overbites/underbites, patients with large gaps, patients who need teeth removed as part of their orthodontic treatment plan. If fixed appliances are required, Norwest Orthodontics offer Damon Clear Braces for a more discrete treatment option.

Keeping your Invisalign clean

As your aligners are removed for eating & drinking, and one set is only worn for 1-2 weeks at a time, your aligners should not discolour or need deep cleaning. Simply cleaning them gently with a very soft toothbrush and cold (never warm) water should be sufficient!

Invisalign Attachments

Invisalign ‘attachments’ are small tooth coloured bumps that are attached to your teeth during the course of your aligners treatment. They are very commonly used during clear aligner treatment for most patients. These attachments act as handles to help your aligners grip to your teeth and perform tilting movements or intrusion/extrusion movements.
