Looking after your teeth and gums during orthodontic treatment

It’s very important to observe proper gums and teeth care during orthodontic treatment. While braces or retainers don’t increase the risk of tooth decay or plaque build-up, the braces and wires can make cleaning teeth more difficult.

Tips on Proper Gums and Teeth Care during Orthodontic Treatment

Gums and teeth care during orthodontic treatmentIt is important to ensure that teeth are cleaned thoroughly twice each day during your orthodontic treatment to ensure your treatment is most effective.

When cleaning your teeth while wearing braces, you need to pay special attention not only to your teeth and gums but also to the brackets and wires.

A soft toothbrush will be gentlest for any pain or discomfort you have from the braces treatment. You should spend about 10 seconds brushing each toot.  Press your toothbrush firmly enough to clean into the gaps and between the wires and the teeth.

What you eat and drink during your braces treatment can be just as important for good dental hygiene. A brace friendly diet does not have to be boring.
