What can I do if my braces break?

When you first get your braces, you will be given a list of things not to eat.

The list of things includes foods like popcorn, corn on the cob, uncut apples, caramel, hard lollies and sticky chewing gum.  Avoiding these foods keeps your teeth healthy and protects your braces from breaking.

The main reason for braces to break or for parts to fall off is chewing hard or sticky foods. More often than not, one of the parts will come loose which will be uncomfortable and annoying for your gums. It’s important to treat broken braces, as leaving your braces unrepaired can lead to longer treatment time to straighten teeth.

If your braces break or one of the parts comes loose, call for an appointment as soon as you can. We will prioritise your appointment because we know how uncomfortable it can be for you. Getting your braces fixed or bracket replaced as soon as possible is important to keep on with your treatment schedule. Call the team at Norwest Orthodontics as soon as possible on 9672 6113.
