After your Twin Block is fitted…

  • It can take up to a week to get used to wearing your Twin Block. Chewing, swallowing and talking may feel awkward or different at first. The best way to adjust to wearing your Twin Block is with consistent wear. Talking as much as possible or reading books out loud is a good way to adjust to speaking with the plate in.
  • You can take over the counter analgesics such as Nurofen or Panadol to manage any discomfort.
  • We encourage eating with the plate in where possible. The plate is designed so that soft foods can be eaten while wearing it. Some examples include soft sandwiches, rice, pasta, scrambled egg, jelly and custard. See our soft foods eBook below for some great recipes. Do not eat any hard, sticky or chewy foods with the plate in place as this can cause breakages.
  • Whilst your Twin Block is removeable, it is important to wear the plate for the amount of hours per day specified by the clinicians for a successful treatment result to be achieved.
  • Ensure you are not wearing your Twin Block whilst you are cleaning it, eating hard/sticky foods, when you are swimming or playing any contact sports.
