Most patients have no difficulties with speech after having a brace fitted. However, some people may notice a change in their speech or awkwardness in the immediate days after having braces fitted. This is not unusual. Difficulties are most obvious when trying to pronounce words that contain “s” and “th” sounds. Some braces can affect your speech for a few days. This is just until your tongue gets used to the presence of your braces. Normal speech will return soon after your tongue becomes acquainted to your braces.
